Commemorating World Environment Day

Today, 5 June, is World Environment Day, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This day was first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Its main objective is to raise awareness and promote actions to achieve progress in environmental matters.
This year, World Environment Day focuses on restoring lands, halting desertification and strengthening drought resilience under the theme “Our Lands. Our future. We are the #GeneraciónRestauración”, also coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, up to 40% of the planet’s land areas are degraded, directly affecting half of the world’s population. The number and duration of periods of drought have increased by 29% since 2000 and, if urgent action is not taken, droughts could affect more than three-quarters of the world’s population by 2050.
Aware of this urgency, institutions, companies and citizens have a fundamental role to play in reversing the situation. The IDP Group positions itself as a key player in climate change mitigation and adaptation, recognizing current challenges and highlighting the fundamental value of engineering in creating sustainable solutions for the efficient use of resources.
The IDP group works with the will to have a positive impact on the well-being of people and the environment. This decision entails a great responsibility and is an opportunity to innovate, carry out new actions to form the basis of our social and environmental responsibility and apply these strategies in our daily processes, with the collaboration and involvement of employees, suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.
