IDP completes SEAT new battery cell assembly plant in Martorell

IDP, a Bureau Veritas company, has completed the design and construction management of the new battery cell assembly plant at SEAT industrial centre in Martorell, a strategic project for the electrification of the automobile in Europe. With an investment of approximately €300 million, the infrastructure strengthens the competitiveness of the Spanish industrial fabric and accelerates the transition towards sustainable, safe and connected mobility.

The plant, recently inaugurated by SEAT & CUPRA, covers a total area of 90,500 m², with 64,000 m² of built space. Its functional design integrates with the existing facilities in Martorell, where the Volkswagen Group manufactures electric vehicles, incorporating criteria of energy efficiency, operational safety and flexibility.

The project has been developed entirely using BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodology, ensuring the highest standards in planning, cost control, traceability and sustainability. The digital model, updated in real time, has facilitated interoperability between all parties involved, reducing risks and ensuring accurate and safe execution.

The inauguration was attended by authorities such as Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Jordi Hereu, Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism; and executives from the Volkswagen Group and SEAT & CUPRA, including Thomas Schäfer and Markus Haupt, who highlighted the importance of this project for Spanish industry.

The launch of this plant represents a decisive step forward for the Spanish automotive industry, incorporating cutting-edge technology and generating specialised employment. This project, supported by more than €85 million from PERTE VEC, reflects the importance of public-private collaboration and reinforces Spain’s role as a benchmark in sustainable and connected automotive manufacturing, demonstrating the sector’s ability to reinvent itself and adapt to the demands of future mobility.
