Indutec will develop the digital twin for the GROWBOTICS project, an innovative robotic system for harvesting and monitoring cherry tomatoes
INDUTEC/IDP – A Bureau Veritas Company is participating in the GROWBOTICS R&D&I project as the technology partner responsible for developing the digital twin, a key tool for simulating, validating and optimising the harvesting and monitoring operations carried out as part of the project.
GROWBOTICS (High-Performance Intelligent Robotic System for Monitoring and Harvesting Cherry Tomatoes in Greenhouses) aims to develop an autonomous and intelligent solution that will help transform the processes of harvesting and monitoring protected crops, thereby improving the efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness of the agri-food sector.
In this context, INDUTEC will take charge of developing the digital twin, a tool that will enable the virtual replication of both the growing environment and the behaviour of the robotic platform. This will make it possible to simulate, validate and optimise harvesting and monitoring operations before they are implemented under real-world conditions.
INDUTEC’s involvement is thus part of a broader technological solution aimed at addressing some of the key challenges facing the agricultural sector, such as labour shortages, rising operating costs and the need to move towards more efficient and sustainable production models.
To this end, GROWBOTICS is developing an autonomous robotic platform capable of navigating greenhouses, an intelligent harvesting system based on machine vision, artificial intelligence models to assess fruit health and quality, and a digital infrastructure for advanced agronomic data management, alongside the digital twin developed by INDUTEC.
“With GROWBOTICS, we are taking another step forward in applying advanced digital technologies to new sectors. The development of the digital twin will enable us to contribute to a solution that combines robotics, artificial intelligence and simulation to tackle some of the main challenges currently facing the agricultural sector,” says Tamara Fanjul, Innovation Project Manager at INDUTEC/IDP – A Bureau Veritas Company.
The project, which will run for 33 months, will be carried out in Andalusia by IDM and Hispatec, and in Galicia with the participation of INDUTEC. It has a total budget of 2,270,732 euros and a grant of 1,567,117.68 euros.
GROWBOTICS brings together a multidisciplinary consortium comprising IDM, Hispatec and INDUTEC, with the collaboration of the TECNOVA and LEITAT technology centres, which contribute their expertise in agronomic validation, computer vision, robotics and advanced simulation.
The initiative is funded by the CDTI and co-financed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under the INNTERCONECTA-STEP 2025 call for proposals, and falls within the STEP sector of Digital Technologies.
