SCENARIOS Project

The SCENARIOS project will develop strategies for health protection, pollution control and elimination of chemicals, PFAS, such as bio-monitoring of the toxicity of drinking water, agricultural subsoil, and groundwater.

OBJECTIVES

SCENARIOS, “Strategies for health protection, pollution Control and Elimination of Next generAtion Refractive Organic chemicals from the Soil, vadosezone and water”, aims to devise and demonstrate a comprehensive set of technological solutions and state-of-the-art strategies for the detection, quantification, control and elimination of PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) from drinking water, agricultural soil and groundwater. All these solutions will be in line with the principle of green chemistry, near-zero energy, sustainability and circular economy.

SCENARIOS also aims to significantly improve human health and ecosystem protection by creating a knowledge base beyond the effects and exposure to PFASs in unprecedented detail, using molecular systems biology, toxicogenomics and phenotypic screening, supported by bioinformatics and chemoinformatics.

During the project, the SCENARIOS solutions will be implemented in 4 cases in operational EU industrial sites and in a public health institution. The implemented activities should present industrial and social results where pollutant measurement and health monitoring provide an excellent environment for the implementation of the Green Deal.

IDP will lead the implementation of the third demonstration on drinking water treatment and will play the role of manager of the other pilot demonstrations. It will also participate in work package 9 by carrying out the cost analysis and economic impact assessment.

SCENARIOS is funded by the EU under the call: “H2020-LC-GD-2020-3”, and aims to contribute to the Green Deal objective, a set of proposals to adapt EU climate, energy, transport and taxation policies to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
