SPHERE Project

The SPHERE project provides a BIM-based Digital Twin platform to optimise the life cycle of buildings, reduce costs and improve energy efficiency.

OBJECTIVES

SPHERE proposes the improvement and optimisation of building design, construction and energy performance, and management, reducing construction costs and environmental impact while increasing overall energy performance. This Digital Twin concept is in fact a distributed but coordinated database, which includes geometric object information that forms a single synchronised virtual model of reality. As has been demonstrated in other fields, the twinning of this virtual information model with reality significantly aids decision making during each phase of the building’s construction and life cycle (fabrication, design, construction, maintenance, operation, rehabilitation and even demolition).

The SPHERE cloud-based ICT platform will enable interaction with different stakeholders during any phase of the asset with a Digital Twin model of building information and a scalable set of different software tools, such as energy demand/performance simulation tools, decision support and coaching systems, BEMs or IoT-enabled predictive maintenance algorithms.

SPHERE is an Innovation Action for the Industrial Sustainability call of the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (H2020).
