IDP awarded with the transport intermodal plan for the automobile sector in Catalonia

The Railroad Company of the Catalonia Government (FGC) has awarded IDP to execute the consultancy works to develop a plan that will execute an intermodal service focused to the automobile industry between Catalonia and the Center of Europe from a study of a new mixed and multi-client railroad service for this industry.

The plan is within the context of iFreightMED-DC project, promoted by the MED Programme of the European Union, which has financial support from the Regional Development Fund for the Mediterranean Basin and aims to improve the maritime accessibility and transport capabilities through multimodality and intermodality, with the purpose to promote sustainable development and freight services to make an optimal use of existing facilities and improve the current service levels in infrastructure corridors.

The automobile industry is located as one of the economies engines, a sector where Spain is the ninth worldwide producer. In addition, one of four Spanish vehicles are produced in Catalonia, representing the logistics the 3% of its GDP.

This action consolidates IDP’s experience in the field of freight transportation infrastructure, where it is currently developing a considerable number of national and international projects.
