IDP and Abertis Autopistas present the conference “Smart BIM: Road C32 Case” at the SCEWC 2019 in Barcelona

Adriana Caballero, IDP BIM Manager and Xavier Perucho, ABERTIS AUTOPISTAS Works and Conservation Manager, will present the conference “SMART BIM: ROAD C32 CASE” on November 20th at 3:00 p.m. in the SmartCatalonia agora, around the Smart City Expo World Congress 2019.

Smart City Expo World Congress will be held from 19 to 21 November in the city of Barcelona and aims to be the meeting point between experts, technology industries, public administrations and research and technology centers, where to share knowledge and experience to develop the cities of the future, promote dynamic actions to enable a sustainable future and address the main challenges that cities must overcome: digital transformation, urban environment, mobility, governance and finance and inclusive and shared cities.

SmartCatalonia, made up of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya and its companies; the Department of Digital Policies and Public Administration and the Department of Enterprise and Knowledge, through ACCIÓ, has designed a space of more than 600 m2 that will host numerous technological companies and innovation centres and in which innovative technological simulations will be carried out in a tour of the city of the future. The space will also host different presentations where we will discover the main novelties developed in some of the most innovative projects in the Smart Cities sector.

During the session “SMART BIM: ROAD C32 CASE” will be presented, project in which the BIM digitalization of the constructive project of the C-32 motorway extension has been carried out. The motorway is located in the northeast of Catalonia crossing the coastal mountain range and runs parallel to the Mediterranean coast between the provinces of Barcelona and Girona, mainly affecting the municipalities of Tordera, Blanes and Lloret de Mar with a total distance of 122 km.

The extension of the C-32 from Tordera to Lloret de Mar has two main roads, on the one hand, the main road of the C-32 of 6.6 km, and on the other hand the road between the junction of Fanals and Papalús of 1 km. Due to the particular characteristics of the area, the main structures of the projected branch are two tunnels of 115 m and 335 m, as well as five viaducts between 90 m and 130 m in length, which enable the terrain’s orographic difficulties to be overcome.

The methodology used has consisted of:

  • BIM modeling of the construction project of the entire road project and complementary projects developed in the engineering phase.
  • Coordination and integration of specialty models.
  • Implementation of a collaborative platform to manage and share the BIM information generated, including planning costs and budget.
  • Development of an asset management platform based on the BIM model, specifically conceived for the operation and maintenance of the infrastructure.
  • Simulation of virtual driving (BIM driving) from the BIM model generated.
