Lotte Energy Materials awards IDP the mega-factory for the production of battery components in Mont-roig del Camp

IDP has been awarded the contract for the drafting of the basic and executive project and construction management of the first factory in Europe of the South Korean giant Lotte Energy Materials, located in the industrial estate of Els Comellarets, in the municipality of Mont-roig del Camp (Tarragona).

As announced by Lotte Energy Materials, the annual production capacity will be increased to 30,000 tonnes, an investment of approximately 400 million euros is estimated and the plant is expected to generate around 500 direct jobs, thus boosting the economic development of the region.

The new plant will occupy a 140,000 m2 industrial site in its first phase and will be dedicated to the production of elecfoil, a copper foil essential for the manufacture of lithium battery cells which, in addition to its application in the motor sector, is also used in energy storage.

The plant will be located on the land of the Els Comellarets industrial sector, a new 44-hectare business and industrial development project with an unbeatable location, with direct access to the A-7 and AP-7, and excellent maritime, air and rail connections.

The scope of the project to be developed by IDP will include the battery component production plant, an intelligent warehouse, an office building, a wastewater treatment plant, a waste treatment plant and an electrical substation. In addition, the development of the industrial sector is also contemplated, along with equipment areas and green zones.

All the technical engineering services to develop the project and the subsequent project management will be carried out using the BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodology, which is essential both in the design and in the overall management of the works and which makes it possible to guarantee and meet the highest demands in terms of programming and costs, reducing the deadlines and uncertainty of the construction works.
